I try not to play favorites with my dogs, but Rio is my favorite. If I could have one dog for the rest of my life, it would be her. She's just that special.

We've been through a lot together and she is the most wonderful companion in the home and field that I've ever had. She has an exceptional temperament and loveable personality, and she cuddles like no other Vizsla. We nicknamed her "Ambien" because if you lay down to cuddle with her, she will put you to sleep faster than sleeping pills. The next thing you know, you've been asleep for hours. It doesn't matter how rough of a day you may have, Rio makes its all go away as she sidles up next to you and gently lays her head on your shoulder, chest or lap. She's my very own therapy dog!

Rio Relaxing  Rio Outdoors

Rio is particularly easy going and quiet in the house, preferring to spend much of the day curled up on couch with whoever is willing and able to cuddle, in front of the wood stove in the winter time or soaking up the warm sun in the kitchen's bay window. She's even been known to sneak in a nap or two (or three!) on the bed upstairs.

Don't let her calm and quiet demeanor in the house fool you, though. Rio is a dynamo in the field. She has a keen nose, tremendous intensity on point, incredible drive and strong desire to hunt. She is the best bird finder I have ever hunted over. She is very forward and independent, and can really range at times, but she has a knack for finding birds that I've never seen before. She matured very early and was a prodigy in the field from the start. She pointed the wing on a string the day I brought her home and would even scent point wings hidden in my backyard bushes.  I was shooting pheasants over her in South Dakota at 6 months of age, and placing in derby stakes with her at only 10 months of age.

After continued success throughout her field trial career, Rio was the Vizsla Club of America's #1 Top Ten Puppy/Derby Dog in 2006 with a total of 692 points. She passes her prowess in the field on to her offspring as well. Her first mating to my male, Cisco, produced the VCA's #1 Puppy/Derby Vizsla in the country for the second half of 2008 and first half of 2009. Her second litter, by Gus (NFC FC AFC Berry's Bad Boy), produced my female, Tricky, who has had success in the field and placed in the 2010 Midwest Vizsla Futurity.

Rio comes from some of the very best field bloodlines that the breed has to offer. Rio's father, Raany, is a Field Champion, Amateur Field Champion and Senior Hunter, and the second all-time producer of Field Champions in breed history.  Her dam also comes from excellent stock, descending from DC Rebel Rouser E T HOF, the breed's number one producer of Field Champions.

All of her accomplishments aside, Rio is my heart dog.  She is an absolute joy to have around and I cannot imagine life without her.
